A 17-year old Mount Vernon teen will be sentenced to 10 years in prison, after he pleaded guilty Wednesday in Jefferson County Court to charges stemming from the shooting of a 40-year old man earlier this year. Devin M. Bruns pleaded guilty to a charge of Armed Violence, a Class X Felony, in connection with the July 17, 2015 shooting of Jerry Gill. The shooting occurred in the 900 block of South 24th Street. Gill was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Bruns is one of five others charged in connection with the shooting, including 18-year old Braden Heck charged with possession of a stolen firearm. Heck is scheduled for a November 10th jury trial in his case. The other three defendants are juveniles and their cases have been resolved in juvenile court, said Jefferson County State’s Attorney Doug Hoffman.
