The Nashville High School Board of Education met last night for a special meeting. The main purpose was to go over a resolution allowing the school to issue Working Cash Fund Bonds for the purpose of increasing the Working Cash Fund for the district. This was approved, as it allows them to begin the paperwork to issue bonds for a project needed at the football field. Superintendent Ernie Fowler explained that the plan is to transfer this cash to the Building Fund to be used to replace the lights and light poles at the football field, as they are the original lights and poles. It is hard to find replacement lights and the poles are rigged to stay up, but it all needs to be replaced. The Board will need to meet with the architects to go over what is needed, but there will be 4 poles with L.E.D. lights installed. These lights are brighter and more cost efficient. Fowler reports that they could look to issue up to $1 million in bonds, but the goal is actually not to issue this much, but up to $300,000. It is the issuance that would go on the tax rolls. They are working with 1st Mid State to either pay off everything within the time frame that they have their current Health, Life, Safety bonds with or to extend it out a year or 2 to pay it all off. The Board will look at different options to see what will be the most advantageous to the district and still be sensitive to the taxpayers, which is the key thing to come up with a balance. More details need to be worked out. The bleachers are approximately 50 years old and also need to be replaced. Fowler says this project would fall under Health, Life, Safety and they have some funds available for such a project, but how much will be left over after the asbestos removal project is finished is unknown at this time. These 2 projects will need to be done in conjunction with each other. The Board also approved of closing out the Activity Fund at Community Trust Bank in Nashville and then transferring it to an Activity Fund at Nashville Savings Bank. Fowler said the purpose was two-fold. It keeps an account at NSB and keeps a good working relationship between the bank and school. Also, bookkeeper Stephanie Bauza would not have as far to travel to the bank to deposit funds each day. The Board also approved of the superintendent, principal and bookkeeper as those with the authority to sign on the account.
