The Memorial Park Board of Directors met Tuesday night and President Steve Fletcher says they approved of the Tax Levy Ordinance for 2015.  This includes 5 funds of general, recreation, insurance, social security and auditing.  There were no increases in 3 of the funds, but there was an increase of $15,000 in the general fund and an increase of $4,000 in the recreation fund, so the total amount levied was approximately 6.4 percent over what was asked for last year, so that is why they had a Truth in Taxation meeting before the regular meeting.  Fletcher talks about asking for high amounts, as he says they could raise their levy 200 percent and still would only get the same amount, which is something many people don’t understand.  Therefore, they try to raise it enough to make sure they get their maximum.  Since P-Tel or Property Tax Extension Limitation was approved, they have lost about 8 percent of their tax levy, due to the fact that evaluations have changed and they have slowly lost about 2 cents of their levy over the years and they can’t get that back.  The removal of the overhead electric wires for the park has stalled, due to the wet weather.  Once the ground freezes, large holes can be dug to put equipment underground, as the goal is to get all wire underground as a safety concern.  They want the work done in time for the spring ball season, as the areas around the ball diamonds are affected.  As of this date, all electric is still on at Memorial Park.  The work at the pool and pool house has also stalled due to the weather.  Work is still progressing on the new playground area in honor of Sierra Wilder.  As this is being done by volunteers, they work when they can and are also waiting to get some better weather to get some concrete put in.  The next meeting of the Memorial Park Board in Nashville will be on January 4th at 7 PM.
