Deer hunters in Illinois harvested a preliminary total of 86,771 deer during the seven-day Firearm Deer Season that closed this past Sunday.  That figure compares to 76,575 deer harvested during the seven days of firearm season in 2014.  Adams County had nearly 2,400 total to lead all counties in the state.  Preliminary harvest figures for the second segment of the firearm season on December 3rd through the 6th totaled 28,803, compared with 24,745 during the second season in 2014.  The preliminary harvest total for the first segment of firearm season on November 20th through the 22nd was 57,968 deer, compared with the 51,830 deer taken by hunters during the first season in 2014.  This year there were 279 deer killed in Washington County in the 2nd season and 1,000 combined for this year, compared to 893 last year.  In Clinton County, there were 189 deer killed this year in the 2nd season and 615 for both seasons, up 32 from last year.  There were 710 deer harvested in Jefferson County in the 2nd season and 2,115 combined, making it one of the top counties in the state.  It was more than the 1,948 last year.  There were 457 deer killed in the 2nd season in Marion County and 1,547 combined, up from 1,359 from last year.  In Perry County, there were 506 deer killed in the 2nd season and 1,346 killed in both seasons, up 95 from last year.  In Saint Clair County, there were 214 deer harvested in the 2nd season and 754 total, which is up from 633 last year.  Other deer hunting opportunities in the weeks ahead include Muzzleloader-Only Deer Season this weekend, Late-Winter Antlerless-Only and CWD Deer Seasons in select counties only on December 31st through January 3rd and from January 15th through the 17th, and then Archery Deer Season continues through January 17, 2016.  For details on deer hunting, open counties, and other information, check the IDNR website at www.dnr.illinois.gov/hunting/deer.
