Illinois produced the sixth highest number of Peace Corps volunteers in the country this year.  The organization says nearly 280 Illinois residents are currently serving.  It released state and city volunteer rankings this week.  The greater Chicago metro area came in fourth with 225 residents serving worldwide in areas like agriculture, economic development, education and environment.  Since the Peace Corps was established in 1961, Illinois has historically been the top fourth state overall for producing volunteers.
