The Ashley Grade School Board of Education met a week ago and they went over the 2014-2015 School Report Card.  It showed that there were 149 students, which is 24 less than the previous year.  The average class size was 15 students, slightly lower than the average size of 17 in the 2013-2014 school year.  The school had an attendance rate of 96 percent for the second year in a row.  The percentage of students at the school that met or exceeded the standards of the PARCC test was 23 percent, much lower than the State rate of 33 percent.  Superintendent Brian Hodge says the Board was concerned about this low score, but it was the first time for the PARCC test last year and everyone was trying to get acclimated to it.  63.8 percent of the students attending are from low income families, which is not much of a change from the 63 percent the previous year.  In 2013-2014, Oakdale had 4 percent of their students listed as homeless, but it was up to 8 percent this past year.  15.4 percent of the students had disabilities, while it was higher at 19 percent the previous year.  It cost $4,613 per student to teach them, much lower than $5,271 the previous year.  It was $8,449 per student to operate the school, which is also below the previous year’s cost of $8,871.  All of these costs are below the State average cost.  Overall, the report had bright spots for a good report card.
