Kaskaskia College will be hosting a Dairy Summit meeting on January 21st.  Ag instructor Aaron Heinzmann talked about it.  There are many surrounding counties that have a high number of dairy farms that can benefit from it.  Mike Hutjens, Dr. Phil Cardoso, Dr. Jim Fraley and Dave Fischer will be facilitating that program.  Topics will include Your Feeding Checklist, How Fungicide Application Can Improve Your Silage Quality, Heifer Development and Calf Raising Strategies, Your Dairy Checkoff at Work, Milk Quality and Antibiotic Residue Avoidance, as well as a panel discussion on the Top 5 Things You Can Do to Improve Milk Quality.  He also reported that the freshman class that began in the Fall semester is one of the largest ever and he believes it will continue to stay high.  The new facility is larger than the previous space and it allows them to expand and add components to the programs.  They also have a mobile ag lab, which will help enhance the experience for the students.  For more information call Heinzmann at KC.
