The Nashville City Council met last night and they approved a request from Carolyn Detering on having the Walk With The Dogs fundraiser event on June 4th in town.  In the past 10 years they have raised nearly $250,000 to combat pancreatic cancer and they hope to surpass that mark this year.  They will use city streets and the police will stop traffic at crossings.  In December, the Council approved of allowing parts of Willowbrook Estates Subdivision to be vacated from the subdivision to allow the property to be sold off in different pieces.  Last night they made it official by approving an ordinance.  The Council then got a resolution for appropriating $144,450.90 of Motor Fuel Tax funds for the purchasing of various materials for roadwork.  These materials include bituminous mix, oil, various aggregate and asphalt.  This will allow for resurfacing or resealing of many streets in town.  This now goes to the Illinois Department of Transportation for approval.  Once they approve it, the bid process begins for the actual purchase of these materials.  A new warehouse has gone up just west of GDB International on Mockingbird Road that needs lighting.  A request was made for the city to put up lights on 3 poles out there.  There needs to be 2 lights per pole, but there is one light on one pole already, so this will be 5 total lights needed.  The Council agreed to pay to put those 5 lights up.  There were 250 residents that recycled 7.58 tons last month.  That is down from the 296 residents that recycled 10.9 tons in December.  Utility Superintendent Blaine Middleton reported that the painting of the clarifiers at the water plant is progressing.  They finished with 2 of the tanks and are on piping now, but still have 2 more tanks to go after the pipes have been painted.  At the last meeting, the Council heard a request for a Tax Increment Fund District on land near Interstate 64 and Route 127 from Hawk Development.  They received some material to look through and approved of the first step, which is allowing for a preliminary study of the area to see if it qualifies for a TIF District.  Before they do anything else, they will wait for the results of that study.  The Nashville Public Library has requested 2 parking spots be reserved for employees.  The Council approved of 2 spots on the north side of the building.  They will have some signs made up to show they are employee parking only.  Golf Course Committee Chairman Erik Rolf reported that some golf carts need batteries.  The golf course bought golf carts 5 years ago and those batteries need to be replaced on 27 golf carts now.  A loan with the city to purchase the carts is almost paid off, so they would like to get the batteries through a loan and just keep making payments to the city.  Rolf said they might look at buying 10 cheaper batteries that would last 3 years and some that would cost more, but would last 5 years, that way there wouldn’t be a need to spend so much at one time, as the replacements would be staggered out.  This plan hasn’t been decided, but the Council did approve of the Golf Committee agreeing to a loan for no more than $20,000, which would be paid off between 1 and 2 years.  Rolf also mentioned that someone is interested in the open Superintendent vacancy and hopes to have more news later this month or next month.
