The Washington County Sheriff’s Department responded to 5 accidents in the past week.  One week ago, there was an accident on Route 127, north of New Minden, as a vehicle had slid off the roadway.  No injuries were reported.  There were 3 accidents on Wednesday.  First there was one on County Highway 1, as a vehicle driven by 34-year old Joshua R. Maschhoff of Nashville, was traveling east on the road, when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to strike a culvert and ditch.  Then, they assisted the Illinois State Police with an accident on Interstate 64 at mile marker 37.  Finally, deputies responded to an accident in Irvington, involving 2 vehicles.  A vehicle driven by 75-year old Fern E. Turpin of Pinckneyville, rear-ended a vehicle driven by 33-year old Arthur E. Henson of New Minden, due to the slick road conditions.  There were no injuries reported in any of the accidents on Wednesday.  On Thursday, there was an accident in Ashley that resulted in an arrest.  A vehicle driven by 22-year old Juan-Carlos Guardian-Valencia of Ashley, went out of control at an intersection, and it hit a vehicle driven by 39-year old Tracy J. Sanders, also of Ashley.  There were no injuries, but Guardian-Valencia was arrested for Driving While License Suspended.  In other calls, the WCSD arrested 24-year old Wynter B. Schultz of Saint Francisville, Illinois on a Lawrence County warrant one week ago.  On Wednesday, deputies arrested 42-year old Justin M. Brake of Richview for Domestic Battery.  On Thursday, they arrested 58-year old Clyde W. Crane of Addieville for Domestic Battery, Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  They also took a report of harassment by telephone from a resident of the county.
