The Irvington Grade School Board of Education met Tuesday night, due to the holiday on Monday.  Superintendent Dave Schulte reported that they had 9 new students, as 3 families moved into the area within the past month and enrollment is at 63.  He reported that they discussed the expiring contact with GFI on the lease of the copy machine, but they want to go over a couple of proposals, so they tabled any decision, as both companies will make presentations at the next meeting.  Schulte says they are trying to see where they can cut expenses, as their state payments could stop at any time.  The payroll was made using direct deposit for the first time and there were no problems, as everyone is on the plan.  The Board approved of a resolution to support the Greater Centralia Area Enterprise Zone that includes a section of the Irvington area.  The resolution will include 12 acres within the city, but the GCAEZ committee was asking for all taxing entities for their approval to add it to the enterprise zone.  The students showing the greatest ability of being self-reliant were announced for the month.  Schulte says one student from each classroom are chosen for their ability to be self-reliant at school.  The winners get a lunch out of school with Schulte.  The winner for kindergarten was Zaine Cook, in 1st and 2nd grade it was Ben Wangler, in 3rd and 4th grade it was Katelynn Mayoral, for 5th and 6th grade it was Madoc Unger and Angel Jacinto from 7th and 8th grade.  Each month there is a character trait talked about and featured.  During the month, the students work on it and at the end of each month, the students that exemplify it the most in each classroom win the award.  The next meeting is on March 21st.
