Here’s some news about snooze: A new government report has uncovered which states get the most sleep, and which get the least. South Dakota has the largest proportion of residents who average at least seven hours of sleep in a 24-hour span at 71.6 percent. Hawaii has the smallest at 56.1 percent. Meanwhile, Illinois is at 65.6 percent. For adults, the recommended amount of sleep is seven to nine hours each night. Past studies have found more than a third of U.S. adults get less than that. Males are at 64.6 percent and females are at 65.2 percent that get the recommended 7 hours of sleep. For those married, 67.4 percent get 7 hours of sleep in a 24-hour period, while those divorced are at 55.7 percent. The new report was released Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Inadequate sleep has been linked to a range of diseases and conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, obesity and depression.
