Investigations into bomb threats made Tuesday, February 17th and Monday, February 22nd against two Mount Vernon schools have resulted in the arrests of two teens on charges related to those threats. According to the Mount Vernon Police Department, at approximately 8:10 AM last Wednesday, their office was notified of a written bomb threat which had been located on a bathroom wall at the Mount Vernon Township High School. Officers assisted in securing the school and began an investigation into the threat. But according to a press release published by District Superintendent Mike Smith, the day of the threat, classes were not dismissed until 12:25 that afternoon, despite the threat being received at 8:10 AM. On Friday, February 19th a 17-year old female student from Mount Vernon Township High School was arrested on charges of Giving a False Bomb Report resulting from the February 17th threat. She was processed at the Mount Vernon Police Department and detained at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Facility pending a court appearance in Jefferson County. Then on Monday at 10:05 AM, the Mount Vernon Police Department was notified of a written bomb threat which had been located on a bathroom wall at Casey Junior High School. Officers assisted in securing the school and began an investigation into the threat. A 13-year old student from Casey Junior High was taken into custody by Mount Vernon Police Detectives and transported to the police department. The juvenile was processed at the police department and transported to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Facility pending a Jefferson County court date. The police department is still investigating a written bomb threat which was located in a boy’s bathroom at the Mount Vernon Township High School on Tuesday, February 16th, which almost canceled the basketball game that night at the school.
