The Washington County Hospital Board of Directors met Tuesday night for their monthly meeting. Chief Financial Officer Elaine Matzenbacher presented the financial report and almost all the numbers were down for January. There were 25 admissions and there were 19 budgeted, while there were 12 in December, while also more than 23 last January. Patient days were at 897 and there were 997 budgeted for. It was 915 in December, and 108 less than one year ago. Outpatient visits for January were down from the 3,000 that were anticipated at 2,415, which was much less than the 2,772 in the previous month, and 330 fewer than a year ago. Emergency room visits was way back up in December at 221 and it was 204 last month, but was less than the 234 anticipated. It was 6 more than in January 2015 though. There were only 29 surgeries in January, 19 less than anticipated, and significantly lower than the 48 surgeries in December, and 24 fewer than last January. Matzenbacher reported that surgeries were down as one surgeon was on vacation for 2 weeks. For the year, everything is less than budgeted for. The hospital had a loss of $45,918 in January, and they had planned for a profit of just $2,410. Last January they had a profit of over $41,000. For the year, the hospital has a loss of $695,599. Matzenbacher reported that Medicare owes the hospital approximately $340,000 and the depreciation for the year is approximately $440,000, so that is where most of the negative in the financial statement. The Board approved of this report.
