The area was hit yesterday morning with winter weather, as at least 2 inches of snow fell in Washington County, causing dangerous driving conditions, but it also has left many people without power. There were outages all day long for customers of Ameren Illinois and Tri-County Electric Cooperative. WNSV was off the air for nearly 10 hours, and others were still without power, as crews from both companies worked to clear lines of heavy snow and make any repairs they find. In the evening in Washington and Marion Counties, Ameren Illinois still had nearly 1,100 customers without power, while Tri-County had over 2,500 without power. As the temperatures dropped, any ice or snow still on the lines became frozen and provided even more weight, causing additional outages throughout the night. As of early this morning, there were still over 200 Ameren Illinois customers in Washington County and over 600 Tri-County customers without power, as they try to get it fully restored, but TCEC has been making progress this morning and now just over 100 people are without power.
