The Nashville Grade School Board of Education met last night and they went over and approved the upcoming school year calendar.  Superintendent Mike Brink says the school has to have 179 total attendance days, which includes 5 emergency days.  They also have to have 185 total calendar days, which includes teacher institute days and the emergency days.  He said he worked with Nashville High School and all the other feeder schools to try to get together on days in school and days out of school.  Important dates for next school year include August 15th as the first day students report, Christmas break from December 22nd through January 2nd, and May 16th as the last day, unless snow days are used.  In other news, the Board accepted the resignations of both dance coaches, Taylor and Kaela Stanowski.  The two will help with try-outs, but the school will begin a search for replacements soon.  Brink reported a couple of items the Board needs to be aware of, including an increase of students in Kindergarten for the next school year.  Already they are expecting 61 to attend in the fall and this is what they know about at this time, with plenty of time for more to register.  It will be something to consider on how many they want to have in a classroom and what options they have.  The other item involves the Title I program at NGS.  They have gone over the 40% mark of students from low income families for this year.  Because of this, all students are now eligible for Title I services, not just those from low income families.  Prior to this, a student had to meet certain criteria to be eligible for Title I services, but this opens it up to all students.  The school has been restricted on how they could use the funding for the program, but now they are free to spend it on things for all students.  Principal Chuck Fairbanks reported that the recent spaghetti dinner for the athletic department was tremendous, as they raised over $4,800, much higher than in any year in the past.  The next meeting will remain on March 24th, despite Spring Break beginning that day.
