Updating a story from yesterday, an Illinois woman who pleaded guilty to fraud charges for lying about a terminal ovarian cancer diagnosis has been sentenced to 3 years in prison. 32-year old Alissa Jackson of Belleville was a married mother of five when she was charged in June 2014 with bilking thousands of dollars in donations, free food and a donated minivan from hundreds of people on behalf of “Alissa’s Army.” She was sentenced Tuesday in Saint Clair County Circuit Court after a December guilty plea to two counts of theft of more than $500 by deception. Jackson could have been sentenced to probation, however Saint Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly sought the maximum 5-year prison sentence.
