The Kaskaskia College Foundation is happy to announce that a new scholarship honoring Dr. E. Ray Searby has been established in the amount of $1000.  The scholarship has been established to honor the life of Dr. E Ray Searby by Jeanie, his wife of 70 ½ years, and their children, Reta, Steve and Carol and their families.  Searby served as the second President of Kaskaskia College from 1973 to 1976.  Under his leadership, the College enrollment more than doubled and the Phase II Building Program was completed.  The Phase II Building Program included the addition of the library, cafeteria, student center and auditorium as well as the vocational building and the gymnasium.  Also during Ray’s tenure as President, the KC District was expanded with the annexation of Bond County, most of Fayette County along with portions of Jefferson and Washington Counties.  Criteria for the scholarship includes that the student must be a resident of the KC District and be a full or part- time student and maintain a minimum of a 2.5 GPA, as well as must be majoring in Agriculture or an Ag-related field, Business, Education or Engineering and must submit a letter of recommendation from one of their high school teachers, if they are a recent high school graduate, as well as an essay describing their future goals.  The Kaskaskia College Foundation is always in need of more scholarships to assist KC students in reaching their education goals.  To establish a scholarship, or for more information on how to go about establishing a scholarship, please contact Suzanne Christ, Director of Institutional Advancement at 545-3069.
