The Kaskaskia College TRIO/Student Support Services Program held its annual End of Year Recognition Reception on May 4th in the Lifelong Learning Center on KC’s Main Campus. The ceremony is held annually to recognize the successes of the students enrolled in the TRIO – SSS program, a Federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from under-resourced backgrounds. TRIO includes seven programs targeted to serve and assist income-eligible individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to post-baccalaureate programs. This was the 6th year for the College to host the reception. KC President and CEO, Dr. Penny Quinn, congratulated the students on behalf of the faculty, staff and Board of Trustees. This included Carrie Austin of New Baden, Jacob Turner of Ashley, Hannah Deeds of Richview, Amanda Wiesemeyer of Breese and Drew Conner of Okawville. The TRIO – SSS program is grant funded by the Federal Government and has recently been renewed for a second five-year cycle due the steady success of the program and the individual successes of its students.
