There was a 4-vehicle traffic crash on Interstate 64 in the westbound lanes at Mile Post 55, late Friday morning. According to the Illinois State Police preliminary investigative details, all vehicles were traveling west bound on I-64 in the left lane at mile post 55 in a construction zone. A car driven by 42-year old Jennifer J. Woody of Carl Junction, Missouri, had come to a complete stop. A van driven by 67-year old Michael D. Thrasher of Mount Vernon was nearly stopped. A car driven by 75-year old Loretta J. Englebright of Mount Olive was slowing behind the van. An SUV driven by 28-year old Jacob L. Jones of Cisco, Georgia failed to slow down and struck the rear end of car driven by Englebright, pushing it forward into the rear of the van, pushing it into the rear of the car driven by Woody. Englebright sustained serious injuries and was flown by helicopter to a regional hospital, while Jones received minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. 2 passengers in the van, 68-year old Richard J. Broz of Louisville, Illinois, 33-year old Samia T. Shenshen of Salem, and a 6-year old female of Salem, all sustained minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital. All vehicles were towed from the scene due to damage. I-64 West Bound was closed for approximately 2 hours for crash investigation and scene clean up. Jones was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash.
