Several area communities will be celebrating Independence Day this weekend. On Saturday, it’s the Ashley Picnic at the Ashley Market starting at 8 a.m. with a flea market. At noon, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office will have the Ident-a-Kid, and the Rainbow Ranch will have a petting zoo from 3 to 5 p.m. R&J Tactical Laser Tag starts at 4 p.m., church services with the United Methodist Church at 6 p.m., the New Heart Fellowship Church Dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Music from the 161 Band starts at 7 p.m., and the fireworks display starts at dusk. On Sunday, Irvington will hold its Homecoming Celebration at the Irvington Park at 9:30 a.m. with church in the park. All you can eat chicken dinners will run from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Irvington Community Center, barbecue contest and craft show start at noon, and the car show runs from 1 to 3 p.m. Jeff Johnson will provide music and the fireworks will start at dusk. The Washington County Arts Council will host a concert in the park with the Beaucoup Bottom Band from 7 to 9:30 p.m., with fireworks scheduled to start at 9 p.m. Okawville’s Fourth of July Dance will be held at the Community Club from 2 to 5 p.m. with music by the Heritage Band.
