The Nashville City Council granted negotiating authority from a representative from Affordable Gas and Electric during the regular meeting last night. Jeff Harman of Affordable Gas and Electric reported to the council that Affordable Gas and Electric is working with Select Energy Partners to form Southern Illinois Aggregation Partnership to negotiate power rates. The two combined companies would negotiate on behalf of almost 100 communities in southern Illinois in order to maximize buying power to save on utility costs. Harman was requesting limited power of attorney authority to negotiate on behalf of Nashville as part of the aggregate group. Mayor Ray Kolweier said that this is the same thing that has been done during past negotiations.
City Attorney Bill DeMoss said that the proposal was in order, and the council agreed to grant that authority. In other business, Kolweier reported that the city was borrowing radar equipment to help track traffic patterns and gauge drivers’ speeds on city streets.
Streets superintendent Rich Schuette announced that the weather had cooperated enough to allow them to get some additional projects finished. He says there is one small project left to complete, and then they would be done for the year. There will be no zoning board of appeals meeting this month. The next meeting will be held December 1.
