A soldier from Tamaroa was killed in Afghanistan Saturday. Tyler Iubelt was one of four Americans killed in a suicide bombing attack at Bagram Airfield near Kabul over the weekend. The Pentagon has confirmed that the bombing killed two soldiers and two contractors in the base near the country’s capital. Perry County Sheriff Steve Bareiss confirmed that Iubelt was among those killed during the attack, and that the soldier’s family is working to bring his remains back home. Iubelt was a graduate of Tamaroa Grade School, and he joined the Army after graduating from Pinckneyville High School. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack with a tweet, and Reuters reported that the bomber was dressed as a laborer. The Army said that the base has been the target of attacks in the past, and that this was the first time a bomb made it into the base.
