The Nashville Grade School District 49 Board met Tuesday night and approved the tax levy. Superintendent Mike Brink said that the district levied at 4.9 percent, but that it will be much lower than that when all of the data comes in.

“The district levied at 4.9 percent, but realistically the levy will probably come back in the two percent range once we get our EAV and new gross data from the county clerk in August,” Brink said. “We levied at 4.9 in order to ensure that we capture everything based upon the PTEL formula.”
The board approved some new policy updates, including the new local government travel control act to determine how much money will be spend on board members, employees and administrators’ travel. Brink and the board also reviewed the mid-year budget and discussed the money owed to the district by the state of Illinois.

“The state currently from FY15 owes us almost $95,000, and with the exception of General State Aid, we have not received anything in terms of special ed reimbursement, transportation reimbursements, early childhood grant payments, or any of our reorganization incentives,” Brink reported. “So other than General State Aid, we haven’t received anything from the state for this year yet, and they still owe us almost $95,000 from the previous year.”
Following a closed session to discuss personnel matters, the board hired BreaAnna Pelczynski as a Pre-K and early childhood teacher for the 2017-18 school year. Pelczynski is already a substitute teacher in the district, and Brink said she would be sitting in at the preschool during the spring semester in order to be ready when school starts in the fall. In his superintendent’s report, Brink said that the preschool area needs new flooring in painting, and that the middle school bathrooms needed updating. With the board’s approval, he will seek bids on those projects and apply them to the Health Life Safety expenditures for the next year. Brink also reported that audits for Title 1, Title 2, preschool grants and federal lunch program also came back 100 percent clean. The next meeting will be held Thursday, January 26.
