It was a dry close to the year, with less than three-quarters of an inch of rain falling in December. According to the Nashville Water Plant, only 0.73 inches of rain fell last month, almost 7 inches fewer than fell in December of 2015. For the year, Nashville received a total of 44.46 inches of rain. That total is about ten inches less than fell in 2015, when just over 54 inches of rain fell in the year. This year’s total is more in line with the 2014 total of 42.26 inches. Nashville also only received 5.3 inches of snow last year as compared with 12.9 inches in 2015, with no snowfall since last February when just over three inches were recorded. The average high temperature for the month was 40.9 degrees, with lows coming in at 23.7 degrees. The warmest temperature for the month was recorded on December 26, when the mercury rose to 66 degrees. The low came exactly one week earlier, when temperatures dipped down to just two degrees, a 64-degree swing in just seven days.
