A Marion woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 64 Saturday. According to Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger, his office was called to the scene of an accident at 44-mile marker between Okawville and Nashville where 56-year-old Dana McSparin was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 12:45 p.m. According to the report by the Illinois State Police, a Ford Fusion driven by McSparin was traveling eastbound on I-64 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway, crossed the center median, and entered the westbound lanes of traffic where it collided head on with a Volvo truck and trailer driven by Reed Pack of Glenns Ferry, Iowa. The collision resulted in the death of McSparin. Both lanes of I-64 westbound remained closed for approximately five hours during the investigation. The ISP was assisted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Okawville Police Department, Nashville Police Department, Washington County Ambulance, Washington County Coroner’s Office, Lyle’s Towing, Gary’s Towing, and the Illinois Department of Transportation. No autopsy is planned, but toxicology samples were obtained by the coroner’s office and were submitted for testing. The crash remains under investigation.
