A bill, which would require gun dealers in Illinois to be licensed at the federal level and state level, was given an approval during the House committee in Illinois on Tuesday.  Right now, gun dealers inside of Illinois are only required to have a federal level license to sell firearms.  This legislation will have exemptions for larger stores that sell thousands of guns and smaller dealers who only have 10 or less guns for sale.  Opponents of this bill are stating that requiring both would make it more difficult to regulate and cause small dealers to potentially close their doors because they wouldn’t be able to afford to pay the possible thousands of dollars in fees.  State Representative Terry Bryant from Murphysboro spoke to the house and said that the smaller “mom and pop” shops are the ones who pay closer attention to their gun sales than the larger stores.  The measure is still currently being considered in front of the entire house.
