Due to the Illinois budget impasse, another school will be forced to close their doors.  The Pre-K classes at the Williamson County school district will close their doors.  Hundreds of children will need to find another Pre-K school in the fall if the state doesn’t pay the 1.3-million-dollars that is owed for the program.  The Pre-K Program Coordinator Michelle Baxter for Williamson County said that she had no choice but to close down unless they receive the money they are owed.  She also showed concern for the 600 children and their families if the program does not receive its 1.3-million-dollars from the state.  The district will also have to fire 48 staff members.  Baxter continued to say that the Pre-K program serves the most needy and at-risk children with its free service grant, which is funded through the early childhood block grant.  She has called Springfield on a daily basis to see what the status is on the budget and to beg for help.  She believes that the loss of this program in Williamson County could be extremely devastating to the community.
