The new chancellor at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale says that he wants public input on how to help develop future plans for the university. Carlo Montemagno had his 1st news conference on Monday, after trustees approved his appointment as chancellor last week. This is the 1st time that SIUC has had a permanent chancellor since 2014. Motemagno says that SIU-Carbondale must define a vision for itself before it can move beyond the financial hardships caused by declining enrollment and lack of a state budget. Lawmakers in Illinois approved the state’s 1st budget since the summer of 2015 earlier this month. Montemagno also stated that he plans to launch an initiative in the next few weeks to ask students and staff what they think SIU should look like by 2025. He says officials will take that feedback and by October, have a define plan for SIU’s future objectives.
