The City of Carbondale would like to remind everyone who is planning on going downtown during the solar eclipse weekend about their liquor laws. Back in January, the City Council approved a resolution to allow open containers in the downtown area during that weekend from August 18th through the 21st. Under the new ordinance, alcoholic beverages are allowed in plastic containers between Jackson and Mill Streets and University Avenue and Washington Streets, from 11am to 11pm. Alcoholic beverages must be purchased at a licensed liquor establishment. Outside beverages and coolers will not be allowed. Any questions in regard to the new ordinance for alcoholic beverages and the solar eclipse weekend can be directed to Carbondale Public Relations Officer Amy Fox at 618-559-1939.
