The Illinois Fairgrounds Foundation is looking to sell the naming rights of the state fairgrounds buildings at the Springfield and Du Quoin locations, to help pay a backlog of maintenance and repairs. Ultimately though, the Department of Agriculture in Illinois has the final say whether or not this will be allowed. It is estimated that the maintenance repairs will total around $180-million. The department also stated that the foundation will be allowed to negotiate with sponsors, but they will have the final say of approval for each agreement. Foundation board chairman John Slayton, said that there have been discussions with potential interested suitors to be a sponsor with the legal counsel from the agriculture department and Governor Bruce Rauner’s Office. Slayton also believes that the Coliseum, Grandstand and Exposition Building at the Springfield fairgrounds would generate the most interest.
