Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner has decided that there is no need to call a special session to help deal with the school funding situation, according to Senate President John Cullerton. On Friday, Rauner announced that that all he needs to do is show the legislation his alternative for the problem. Rauner also told lawmakers that he wants a funding plan by the end of today, or he will be forced to call them into a special session. Rauner said he will use his amendatory veto on the measure legislation has drawn up, because all the formula does is help “bailout” Chicago Public Schools, who have had underfunded pension accounts. Proponents say Chicago is not getting preferential treatment. Cullerton continued by saying all Rauner needs to do is meet with the legislative leaders and show them his idea. Rauner has produced a list this week, which will cut Chicago funding by $145-million and adds that money to other districts in Illinois. Those number-crunching details have not been released yet.
