Bail has been set at $35,000 for a Centralia resident, in connection to a theft of a pickup truck and striking the truck’s owner with the stolen truck on Friday. 20-year-old Jonathan Acuff was formally charged on Tuesday for the Class 2 possession of a stolen vehicle. In a separate case, he was charged with a Class 2 felony for failure to report an accident. Early on Monday, Acuff was arrested after he was caught attempting to steal a different vehicle. Victim Joshua Heern suffered minor injuries following the theft of his truck and being struck by Acuff by his vehicle along the 500 block of North Beech Street. Heern reportedly noticed someone around his vehicle, which resulted in an argument. Acuff then struck Heern with the truck, while he was traveling across the street. Acuff then struck a pole and a house while attempting to escape. Heern had to be treated for his injuries at an area hospital with no one else receiving any injuries. He told police that 2 black males were involved in the attempted theft, but police have not identified the 2nd suspect. Acuff now resides at the Marion County Jail.
