A Salem teenager has been sentenced to 4-years of probation, after pleading guilty on Tuesday inside the Marion County Court. He was charged with one count of a Class 2 felony burglary. 18-year-old Donald Fairchild was officially charged with 3 counts of felony burglary, in regard to a string of vehicle break-ins around Salem back in November. In exchange for his guilty plea, the two other counts were dismissed. He was also sentenced to 55-days in jail and given credit for those 55-days served in jail. He was also ordered to pay court costs, restitution and must complete an alcohol and drug treatment program. Fairchild was arrested, after a witness described a vehicle that resulted in Salem police to go to Fairchild’s home, where they found a vehicle matching the witness’ description with an engine that was still warm. Officers also reportedly saw an insurance card from one of the victims on the seat of Farichild’s vehicle. This was after permission was given by Fairchild’s mother to search the vehicle, where other stolen items were found. Fairchild is now scheduled to have a hearing in March, where it will be determined what amount of restitution he must pay to his victims.
