A jury of 12 people and 4 alternates were selected on Friday, in regard to the murder trial of a Mt. Vernon man, before his court appearance was recessed for the long holiday weekend. 21-year-old John Wells was present in custody last week in Jefferson County, while the jury selection was conducted in his case. Wells returned at 430pm on Friday to jail, while he waits for his trial to resume on Tuesday for the shooting death of DeAndrey Jackson on January 20th at a Mt. Vernon bowling alley. US Marshals arrested Wells at a private residence in Bridgeton, Missouri on February 2017, for having a warrant charging him with 1st-degree murder and a robbery of Jackson. Prosecutors say that Jackson was shot to death during a botched robbery. Wells was then indicted in the case, along with 7 other people. That included Curtis Devan Jr., Dantrez Brown, Deon Frazier, Jarron Liddell, Lamar Williams Jr., Jony Feggins and Lekedrion Russell. Russell, Devan and Frazier have already plead guilty to lesser charges, in exchange for testifying against the other co-defendants. If they choose not to testify, they can still be prosecuted on murder and robbery charges. Brown and Liddell also entered guilty plea agreement, requiring them to testify. They would have their murder and robbery charges against them dismissed if they do so.
