Possession of an assault-style weapon by anyone under 21-years-old would become illegal, under a legislation that the Illinois House endorsed on Wednesday. The plan, which was sponsored by Democratic Representative Michelle Mussman of Schaumburg, would prohibit minors from purchasing or possessing high-capacity weapons, attachments, .50-caliber rifles and cartridges. They would also have 90 days to transfer ownership if they already own one. Critics decried the idea that the government would confiscate property, but Mussman said that authorities would not visit home to pick up weapons. 1st-time offenders who get caught with the prohibited firearms would be charged with a misdemeanor.
