A top federal government lawyer is urging the US Supreme court to not hear another appeal for ex-Governor Rod Blagojevich. Reports show that a 34-page brief was filed on Friday, where Solicitor General Noel John Francisco calls Blagojevich’s appeal, “unwarranted and without merit.” The brief comes after Blagojevich asked the court last November to consider tossing his convictions on corruption charges. In that filing, Blagojevich’s attorneys argue by taking up the case, the court could potentially settle lingering disagreements in lower courts over what constitutes as illegal political fundraising. Blagojevich was indicted back in 2009 on federal corruption charges, which included allegations that he tried to sell or trade Barack Obama’s old Senate seat. He was later convicted and has served over 5 years of his 14-year federal prison sentence.
