Students at the University of Illinois may soon be required to take online training programs about sexual harassment and misconduct. U of I President Tim Killeen says that he is currently working with chancellors at all 3 campuses, to make the training mandatory for students by next fall. He suggests that students who do not complete the training will be prevented from registering for the spring semester. The university is required by the state and the federal government to make the training available to its students. The executive director of the Office of University Ethics, Donna McNeeley, says that the program is aimed to promote greater awareness and prevention of sexual misconduct in educational and social settings. She says that nearly 40,000 students participated in the training last year, with 80-percent being new students. 40-percent of returning students participated in the training last year.
