The West Washington County School District met for a regular monthly meeting last Thursday, March 22nd. At that meeting, the board approved the grass cutting bid for the 2018 season. That bid went to Andy Tillison with “Precision Mowing,” who was the only bid. They also accepted graduation dates for 8th grade and senior students. The Seniors will have graduation on March 20th at 2pm, with 8th graders having theirs on May 22nd at 7pm. The 2018-19 school calendar and the IHSA Membership was also accepted. The board agreed to purchase 79 new computers for the district for the 2018-2019 school year. A new elementary reading series was accepted, which will be for kindergarten through 2nd grade students. The new curriculum reading program is “Ready Gen.” The last item on the agenda was the approval of an overnight trip for the yearbook and newspaper staff, where they will go to Charleston. After the board came back from closed session, they made some hiring moves. Catherine Schnoeker was accepted to become the new high school math teacher. Reid Recker was accepted to become the new band instructor. The last hire was Tom Horman, to be the bass fishing coach for this season. The last move that the board made was accepting the renewal of certified staff and non-tenured certified staff for the 2018-19 school year.
