The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees met on Monday, for a regular monthly meeting. The Board approved a resolution that will proclaim the month of April as “Community College Month”, which will recognize the role that colleges, such as KC, play in the community. The public is invited to attend any of KC’s education centers, which will be hosting events throughout the month. They will be at the Nashville Education Center on April 2nd from 330 to 530pm, then at the main campus on April 30th. The Board also accepted the retirement of Vice President of Instructional Services, Dr. Greg Labyak, effective as of June 30th. Also resigning on Monday was Human Resources Director Beth Jones, effective as of June 30th, and Nursing Instructor Lucinda Spencer, effective as of May 11th. Daniel Powell was also hired as the college’s new Audio/Visual Technician. In other action, all the bids to replace the roofs, heating and air conditioning over different buildings at the college were rejected on the main campus. The project will now re-bid, which will also include additional roof replacement work on the college’s Science and Technology Building. The other buildings that will receive work are the Student Center, Cafeteria kitchen and the Fine Arts wing. BLDD Architects was authorized to begin to replace hot and cold waterlines to the restroom renovation project. Also the bid from CDW Government Incorporated was approved, as they will upgrade the college’s wireless network system. CommSquad of Lebanon was hired to install the Ethernet cabling needed to support the new wireless network. The fire alarm system panels at the Salem Education Center will be replaced by Tyco Simplex/Grinnell, which the college authorized on Monday. A donation of $16,000 was also accepted from SSM health Good Samaritan Hospital of Mt. Vernon, for an ultrasound system for use by the college’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.
