The Marion County Coroner’s Office responded to a car crash on Sunday night, at Boat Dock Road west of Patoka, which claimed the life of a Shobonier man. 25-year-old Travis Collier of Shobonier died early on Sunday morning, as a result of the single-vehicle crash. The vehicle and body were called in at around 640pm on Sunday. According to the Marion County Coroner, Collier had been out with some friends on the east-side of Carlyle Lake early on Sunday morning, but when he and the others left the area, Collier failed to return home. Crash reports indicate that Collier’s vehicle drifted off of the left side of the roadway, as he was traveling eastbound on boat Dock Road. He then went airborne across the creek, struck a retaining wall on the other side and came to a rest on the top of the creek bed. No occupants or passengers were inside of his vehicle and the vehicle was not visible from the roadway above. Collier’s friends and family members became concerned when he failed to return home, with members spending Sunday searching for him. After they were unsuccessful in locating him, they reported him as missing to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. He was ultimately discovered a short time later by a farmer, who was passing the area on a tractor. It appears that Collier died instantly from multiple blunt force trauma in the crash, when his truck hit the training wall. No autopsy is planned, but samples were obtained for toxicology testing and will be submitted to a certified laboratory for analysis. The Illinois State Police Department is handing the crash investigation, but they have not yet released their report. Day/Macz Funeral Home in Patoka is assisting the family with arrangements.
