A Mt. Vernon man is jailed, after allegedly firing shots on Wednesday afternoon, inside and outside of his home just west of Jaycee Lake. 38-year-old Daniel Morton was taken into custody on Wednesday at around 1230pm, after Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic violence situation, involving firearms. According to police, Morton was waiting for them on his front porch and surrendered. He is currently being held on domestic battery and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon charges, with bail still waiting to be set. Morton fired a shotgun through a door inside of the home, then went on to fire a rifle outside. Deputies confiscated three long-guns after the arrest. There were no injuries reported on this incident. Morton is also facing a misdemeanor for illegal possession of a firearm and a felony for reckless discharge of a firearm after an incident back on March 18th at the Sportsman’s Club. Deputies found Morton with a loaded handgun in the passenger seat of his vehicle, after he allegedly fired shots in the parking lot of the Sportsman’s Club. It is unclear when his next scheduled court appearance is for those charges back in March.
