The Nashville High School Board of Education met for a regular monthly meeting last night. At that meeting, the board heard a proposal for a possible Outdoor Music Practice Facility. They will begin to begin work for that practice facility as soon as possible, which should be done by the end of the summer. Under the proposal, they will have a sidewalk with solar lighting from the south parking lot to the football field area. Also the board approved the treasurer’s report, which included an extra $52,000 from state funding on transportation, with the school still owed $105,000. The district also got $7,500 in special education funding and $5,000 in driver’s education funding. The board approved a raise in school lunch prices, which went up by 25-cents for student and adult lunches. Student lunches are now at $3, with adult lunches at $3.25. The lease levy for the 2018-2019 school year was approved at $6,200, for licensing materials and software upgrades. The Improving Agricultural Education Programs mini-grant was approved, which gives an additional $10,000 on the greenhouse project, bringing the total up to $30,000 on grants and donation funds. The board accepted the resignation of the National Honor Society sponsor Jean Orr. The board now has no sponsor for the organization, so they need to find a replacement. A consideration of guidelines on feeder schools and community teams use of the NCHS sports facilities were discussed, with a decision made last night. The board approved to allow only feeder school teams access to the NCHS sports facilities, who are entering NCHS. Any team that is not affiliated to Nashville High School will not be allowed to use their facilities. Also a replacement of a drain tile along the Ag building was approved. The health life safety amendment was approved by the state, so the district will use $28,000 to make improvements to roughly 100 door closings and light fixtures at the high school. The school will also be installing a new neon sign outside, an agriculture greenhouse, the Band storage pods and outdoor music practice facility, along with the installation of the ROE inspection items. Superintendent Hawkins announced that the friends of hornet football and the NCHS football program donated a $2,500 real mower, which was purchased from the golf course. Summer office hours will be starting on Wednesday, May 23rd and the NCHS graduation will be on Sunday, May 27th. The board approved 4 hirings last night. Logan Geppert was approved to be a temporary summer technology worker, along with Emily Kuberski as the new NCHS Cheer Coach. Mark Hostert was approved to become the new Special Education Teacher for summer school and Kim Hake was approved to be the Special Education Paraprofessional for summer school. The next meeting for the Nashville High School Board of education will be on Monday, June 25th, where they will have their amended budget hearing.
