A Legislation failed to get out of the House, which would allow Chicago police officers to use drones for surveillance of large crowds. The Chicago Democrat that sponsored the measure said that the drones could help prevent mass shootings, like the one last year at a Las Vegas music festival. The measure would allow police to sue the drones, when a group of over 100 people gather on public property. Overwhelming support was shown in the Illinois Senate. Opponents say that the drones could dissuade protesters from exercising their 1st Amendment rights. The drones could someday be equipped with facial recognition technology, which would bring Illinois another step closer to being a police state.
