The Governor’s Office of the Illinois Bicentennial and the Serve Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and community Service to Serve Illinois are now accepting applications for the Governor’s Hometown Awards program. This program gives formal recognition to those who contributed to their community’s quality of life, through projects that have strong volunteer support, meet a need and make a definitive impact on the town. Governor Rauner stated, “Much of what has been Born, Build and Grown in Illinois is thanks to community volunteers. As we celebrate Illinois’ bicentennial, it is extremely important to recognize the strong communities and dedicated volunteers, who have worked so hard to make Illinois a great state to live.” Interested townships, villages, cities and counties can apply now through August 1st, for projects that use volunteers in their communities for the period of January 1st, 2017 through December 31st, 2017. For additional information in regard to the program criteria and on the application process, visit Serve.Illinois.gov. Again that deadline is August 1st to apply for the Governor’s Hometown Awards program for all townships, villages, cities and counties.
