After a month-long manhunt, the two men who escaped from a Southern Illinois jail ended, after the two fugitives were located in 2 separate days this past weekend. On Friday night, a resident from Carmi reported that he observed an individual who matched 24-year-old Zachery Shock. Officers from the Illinois State Police Department, Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, Hardin County sheriff’s Department and from the Ridgway Police Department responded to the sighting. At approximately 1023pm on Friday, 2 ISP officers were able to located 24-year-old Zachery Shock, who was walking in the middle of a roadway near Equality, in rural Gallatin County. Shock was then taken into custody and at the time of his arrest, he was armed with a located handgun. During the time of his escape, he was waiting for a trial on 1st-degree murder. Shock was accused of shooting and murdering Salem resident James Berkel at his mother’s home in McLeansboro back in 2016. Details behind the arrest of 61-year-old James Tipton have not been released at this time, but it was confirmed that he was arrested and transported to the white County Jail. The 3rd inmate who escaped from the White County Jail with Shock and Tipton was 28-year-old Justin Bray, who was caught just days after the June 16th escape.
