The office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal and Governor Bruce Rauner have announced the recipients of the Small Firefighting and Ambulance Service Equipment Grant Program, which is also known as the Small Equipment Grant Program. 100 fire departments and nonprofit ambulance services across Illinois received grants for the purchase of safety equipment, protective clothing, breathing apparatus and other tools needed. The money for this grant comes from the Fire Prevention Fund, with the total of the grant being $2.2-million. Beckemeyer-Wade Township Fire Protection District received the max amount of $26,000, Kell Community Fire Protection District about $26,000, Brownstown Fire Protection District a little over $24,000, Jefferson Fire Protection District $24,000, and the Addieville Community Fire Protection District will receive a grant of over $24,000. Most Illinois fire departments, fire protection districts, township fire departments and stand-alone, nonprofit ambulance service providers were all eligible to apply. All fire department, fire protection district and township fire department applications were required to have participated in the NFIRS for a minimum of two years prior to applying for the grant.
