A family of 9 has assistance from the Red Cross, after a Wednesday night fire to their home along South Walnut Street in Centralia, where it suffered heavy fire damage. An air conditioning unit is being blamed for the fire, which spread throughout 2 rooms of the home, once firefighters arrived to the scene at around 640pm. A neighbor noticed smoke and fire coming from around the unit and in the living room, before alerting the family. 5 adults and 4 children were able to escape the home without any injuries. Firefighters were able to contain the flames to only the living room and the kitchen, but the 2-story home suffered heat, smoke and water damage. All available Centralia City firefighters were called to the scene, along with help from the Centralia Fire Protection District. Firefighters were at the scene for approximately 2 hours.
