Kaskaskia College President George Evans announces that he is going to be holding an informational session at the Nashville Education Center on Thursday, August 2nd, at 6pm, to discuss the new After School College Program, which will be launched at in the fall semester at area high schools. 14 local high schools have been chosen to participate, with the goal to replace college credit that was lost, due to the faculty credentialing changes by the Higher Learning Commission in 2017. Students can now earn college credit from KC, while still attending high school, by taking courses online or after school. This initiative will save students and families thousands of dollars in future college expenses. The tuition and mandatory fees will be waived by the college, so students will only be responsible for lab fees and textbooks. According to Evans, “By waiving the tuition, the college hopes to save the high school students and their parents funds for which they can use to pursue their academic field of study after they graduate from Kaskaskia. We truly hope parents and students will take advantage of this opportunity.” This initiative is being offered with assistance from the Kaskaskia College Foundation. For information or a complete list of course offerings for this program can be directed to KC coordinator of student recruitment Amy Troutt. She can be reached by calling 618-545-30-48 or through email at atroutt@kaskaskia.edu. That meeting again is on Thursday, August 2nd at 6pm, at the Nashville Education Center.
