A new state law is now going to allow Illinois High School students to take an unlimited number of duel-credit courses, and earn both high school and college credit. Governor Bruce Rauner signed the legislation on Friday, which says that it will give students better access to high education. The General Assembly unanimously approved the measure back in May. Some districts will have to limit the number of duel-credit classes that students may enroll in, or the number of credits that they can earn. The new law, which takes into effect on January 1st, will prohibit school boards from setting limits. It will instead require the courses, which will be either taken in class or online, to be taught by instructors who meet state requirements. Senator Chuck Weaver is the bill sponsor and he says that it will make college more affordable and increase the number of students who earn college degrees.
