A bench trial for a Murphysboro man, who is facing murder charged in the deaths of his parents, will start this week in Jackson County. Jackson County prosecutors believe that 41-year-old Keith Ritcheson shot and killed Burl and Brenda Ritcheson back on August of 2017. All 3 lived at the same household in Murphysboro. Ritcheson is facing a minimum of 90 years in prison, if he is convicted of both murders. He opted for a bench trial, instead of the usual trial-by-jury, so that means that the judge set aside Tuesday and Wednesday for the trial. Ritcheson has been indicted in 2 alternative counts with causing the death of Brul Ritcheson and 2 alternate counts of causing the death of Brenda Ritcheson, after he allegedly shot them, knowing that it would cause their deaths or great bodily harm. The incident occurred during the overnight hours of Sunday, August 13th and Monday, August 14th in 2017.
